Because aluminium is strong, the frame can be slim and the glass area large, so a door reads as glazing rather than framework. It also stays dimensionally stable through the seasons, which is why a well-set aluminium door still closes with one hand years after it was fitted.

Why it matters
What happens if it is left alone
A door that no longer seals is a permanent draught and a permanent heating cost. Compression seals flatten, thresholds wear and the gap you can feel with the back of your hand in January is the same gap letting warmth out all winter.

Making good
All making good is completed internally and externally, so the finished opening looks right from both sides before we leave.

Aluminium doors: the detail
Entrance and front doors
An aluminium entrance door is the most-used moving part of a house, so it is specified around use as well as looks: leaf design, glazed or solid panel, handle type from long bar pulls to flush options, colour inside and out, and the threshold that suits the elevation.
We survey the opening, check the structure and the existing threshold build-up, and quote the complete job including fitting, making good and rubbish removal, rather than the door on its own.
Residential side and back doors
Side and rear doors take the hardest life of any door on a property: wet coats, bikes, bins and children. Aluminium suits them because the leaf stays rigid and the finish does not need repainting where it is knocked and scuffed.
Glazing is specified to suit the position, from obscured units on bathroom-side elevations to toughened low-level panes where the glass runs close to the floor.
Aluminium French doors
French doors give a wide, symmetrical opening without the running gear of a bi-fold or slider. In aluminium the meeting stile can be slim, so two leaves look more like a glazed opening than a pair of doors.
We check the head and threshold carefully at survey. French doors show up any deflection or settlement immediately, because both leaves have to meet cleanly along their full height.
Matching doors to windows
Where doors and windows appear on the same elevation, we set them out together: the same powder-coated colour, consistent sightlines and the same hardware finish, so the frontage reads as one specification rather than several purchases.
Most of this work is residential, but the same range suits offices, showrooms and small commercial frontages. We are CHAS accredited and are used to working alongside main contractors on a programme.
