New conservatories
We build conservatories in UPVC and aluminium, in the familiar styles: lean-to, Edwardian, Victorian and bespoke shapes to suit an awkward elevation. Aluminium suits contemporary designs and larger glazed spans; UPVC suits traditional styles and tighter budgets.
Specification decisions that actually matter are the roof type, the glass, the ventilation and the doors connecting the conservatory to the garden and to the house. We work through each of those at survey, because between them they decide whether the room is comfortable.
Insulated conversions
A conversion keeps the existing base and frames where they are sound, and replaces or insulates the roof so the space performs like a room rather than a greenhouse. Glazing in the elevations can be upgraded at the same time, and roof lights can be retained so the room keeps its brightness.
We survey the existing structure first. The base, the frames and the wall junctions all have to be sound enough to carry and support the new roof, and we will tell you honestly if the existing structure is not up to it.
Glass, ventilation and comfort
Solar control glazing makes a substantial difference on a south or west-facing conservatory, cutting the heat gain that drives summer temperatures up. Opening vents, roof vents and the right door configuration provide the cross-ventilation that glazing alone cannot.
Comfort in a glazed room is always a combination: the roof, the glass and the ventilation working together. Fixing one and ignoring the other two is why so many conservatories disappoint.

How much does a conservatory cost?
Size, style, material, roof specification and groundwork all move the figure, so we quote each project individually after a free survey rather than advertising a headline price.
How long does a conservatory take to build?
It depends on the size and on how much groundwork is involved. We set out the expected programme in writing with your quotation so you know what to plan around.
Will an insulated roof make the room dark?
Not if it is designed properly. Roof lights and retained glazed panels keep daylight coming in while the insulated sections deal with the heat and the noise.
Do I need planning permission?
Many conservatories fall under permitted development, but it depends on the size, the position and the property, listed buildings and conservation areas in particular. We will flag anything that looks like it needs checking with your local authority.
Can I have doors between the conservatory and the house?
Yes, and the choice matters. French, sliding or bi-fold doors at that junction affect how heat moves between the two spaces as well as how the rooms feel connected.
